Making art at 14,000 feet? Yes – at the Canada France Hawaii Telescope on the extinct volcano, Mauna Kea. Being embedded for a month into this scientific corporation and making art about the experience was an enormous privilege. The scientists and engineers were initially uncertain but as time went on, welcomed my participation in their world. Petroglyphs carved by the first Hawaiians, the geology at the summit and the rare and wonderful plant life as well as the scientists and their equipment were all themes for exploration.
